Carpentry
Woodword construction – a founding education
Woodwork Construction is a vocational education, switching between practical training in a company and theoretical teaching at a technical school. This education is placed in the entry Building & Construction.
As a carpenter or a thatcher you are bound to like working in fresh air. You must not be afraid of heights, and you must be fond of working with your hands.
The course of training
Depending on which branch of specializing, it takes from 3½ to 4 years to become a carpenter. Of this, 55-60 weeks is spent at a technical school. You will have 20 weeks at school as a start: ”basic training course”. Here you get aquainted with several of the educations belonging to the same family. Upon this, you will work in practice in the company that has apprenticed you. Later comes the ”main training course”: school intervals of 10 weeks’ duration, the last one including a final test to complete the apprenticeship.
It is an option to start in the firm.
At Technical College Of Jutland you can be educated in 2 branches:
- Carpenter
- Thatcher
Profile
Carpenter’s education at TCJ is known for its quality. Good collaboration between apprentice, teaching master and the college is key to the education of skillful journeymen - carpenters capable of making their careers in the Building & Construction sector. Most people know someone who once attended TCJ–Carpentry. One of our apprentices won the 1994 Danish Championship and later came very close to representing Denmark at the 2000 World Championship in Seoul.
Since 2001 we have also been educating thatchers. Special school intervals are placed at TCJ. We look forward to a joint venture with apprentice and teaching master, in educating the thatchers.
All teachers in the carpentry department are skilled carpenters and have a further technical education, together with a pedagogical education.
The teaching is organized in accordance with carpentry-related issues. The levels of the apprentices are taken into consideration, and the goal is to make everyone prepared for the final test of completed apprenticeship.
The carpentry department is housed in new theory classrooms and practice workshops. The premises are situated within walking distance from boarding house and railway station. Machinery used for wood processing is placed in a separate workshop.
